Newcastle United are reportedly interested in raiding Bayern Munich for their club-record signing Lucas Hernandez this summer as a takeover continues to edge ever closer – and Toon fans have responded on Twitter.
Hernandez, 24, joined Bayern last summer from Atletico Madrid having clocked up an enormous 110 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish giants. Bayern splashed out an enormous, club-record £72million (Bild) to sign the French star.
It saw Hernandez join French teammate Benjamin Pavard, both of whom were crucial to France’s 2018 World Cup win. But after a season with Bayern, Hernandez has struggled and is already being linked with the exit door.
Indeed, an ankle injury saw him miss a huge chunk of the season – sitting out 12 consecutive Bundesliga outings. Though he has returned to full fitness, he has lost his place to Alphonso Davies, managing just a 17-minute substitute outing on Saturday.

Hernandez is also more than capable of playing at centre-back – with left-footed central defenders very fashionable at the moment. David Alaba has been pushed into the middle of the defence, though, keeping Hernandez out.
Newcastle are touted as being interested in Hernandez as per German newspaper Bild ahead of the summer window, though the chances of raiding Bayern for their club-record signing after just one season seem particularly unlikely.
Neverthless, Newcastle fans responded on Twitter to reports that they could see a World Cup winner in black and white stripes next season – and many feel as though he would be an excellent signing, even if somewhat unlikely.
