Newcastle fans react as club linked with Monaco youngster Mehdi Zerkane

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing AS Monaco youngster Mehdi Zerkane and are believed to be in talks with the winger – and Newcastle fans are intrigued on Twitter.

Zerkane, 19, is in the final months of his current contract at Monaco. Though he has never played for Monaco’s first team, he is highly-rated in the second string and is a regular member of their Under-19 side.

Indeed, Zerkane has played 10 times this season in the UEFA Youth League – the youth version of the Champions League – and has scored twice for the French club. Get French Football News claim Newcastle are in talks.

But Monaco have seemingly decided against offering him a new deal to keep him at the club, and Newcastle are looking to take advantage. The Toon do have competition, though, from an unnamed Ligue 1 side.

Newcastle have options out wide in the likes of Ayoze Perez, Miguel Almiron, Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie. But Ritchie is playing at left-back, Perez has been linked with Napoli and loanee Jacob Murphy is struggling at West Brom.

Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter to the news that their side are interested in landing the teenager from Monaco, of whom they have Antonio Barreca on loan from. Many want to see a deal get done.
