Newcastle fans react as club linked with AS Roma striker Nikola Kalinic

Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Nikola Kalinic this month, as the Croatian continues to struggle on loan at AS Roma this season.

Kalinic, 31, was allowed to leave Atleti in the summer after scoring just four goals in 24 games for Diego Simeone’s side. His luck back in Italy, though, has hardly changed – managing just six appearances in all competitions for Roma this season.

The 42-time Croatia international is expected to remain at Roma and continue to play back-up to the club’s first-choice strikers – including Edin Dzeko. But Correire dello Sport have claimed former Blackburn striker Kalinic could return to England.

That is because the former Fiorentina, AC Milan and Hajduk Split striker has been offered to Newcastle, though he has already turned down moves to Hellas Verona and Genoa. It remains to be seen if he would be tempted with a move to Tyneside.

Eagle-eyed Toon fans may remember Kalinic from his time in the Premier League, when he clocked up 53 appearances for Blackburn between 2009 and 2011 – in which he scored 13 goals. He was considered somewhat of a flop.

But he has since starred for Dnipro in Ukraine and then Fiorentina and it has pushed Kalinic onto some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Toon fans are interested in the signing Kalinic, despite Joelinton and Andy Carroll’s form.
