Newcastle fans react as club could sign striker with 'eye-watering speed'
Newcastle United are reportedly lining up a shock move to sign Chelsea striker Timo Werner – and Toon fans have responded to the surprise news.
Werner, 25, has been indifferent since his move to Chelsea – failing to replicate the form he produced while at RB Leipzig. He cost £47million.
In 60 league and cup appearances, the Germany ace has only scored 14 goals – a ratio of a goal every four games, slightly worse in fact.
But in the same amount of games, he has laid on 16 assists – taking his goal involvements to one in every two. His speed is certainly a handful.
The Bundesliga’s website labelled his pace as ‘eye-watering’ in a recent comment piece, while the striker was still at Leipzig. That remains.
Newcastle are keen to add him to their attack, with BILD reporter Christian Falk confirming the interest. He shares an agent with Fabian Schar.
What do Newcastle fans think about a move for Chelsea star Werner?
Clearly, Werner would be a magnificent coup for Steve Bruce’s side. But the chances of them signing him in January is almost impossible.
He remains a crucial part of Thomas Tuchel’s side despite his rate of goals. Next summer, however, Chelsea will be more willing to get rid.
For Werner himself, having only started three of seven league games, he might be tempted by a move. To Newcastle, though, is a different story.
Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the reports that Werner has emerged as a target for the Toon – and many are stunned.
