Newcastle United are being linked with a move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud this month with the Frenchman expected to leave Stamford Bridge after becoming third choice in west London – and Toon fans have reacted on Twitter.

The Telegraph have claimed that Newcastle want to sign 33-year-old striker Giroud on loan until the end of the season. Chelsea have not blocked a move, but have informed The Toon that they will only sanction a deal if they can bring in a replacement.

Giroud has fallen to third choice in the pecking order after the brealthrough form of Tammy Abraham. Michy Batshuayi remains second choice at Stamford Bridge, but even he has been linked with another loan move away from Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, the former Arsenal man has been afforded just seven games under Frank Lampard this season – and he has played less than 200 minutes for the Blues in the Premier League. Newcastle are now keen, but are not the only side to be linked.

Aston Villa, West Ham and Crystal Palace have also been linked with the World Cup winner, while those same sides and Newcastle have also tested the water regarding the future of Batshuayi – as per the same report.

Giroud is earning a huge £110,000 a week (Spotrac) at Chelsea and if he was to leave the London club it is likely Chelsea would have to pay a percentage of his wages. Newcastle fans have reacted on Twitter to the news they could sign Giroud.
