Newcastle fans react as Celtic reportedly eye Christian Atsu

A number of Newcastle United fans believe that an opportunity may have opened up for the Magpies to try and land one of their marquee targets this summer.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Steve Bruce was prepared to spend big to sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic during this window.

It was suggested by the Mail that Newcastle had however, accepted defeat in their pursuit of the Frenchman with the Hoops not prepared to sell. Another report from the Mail reported that Celtic want £40 million for the forward.

That asking price should take Newcastle out of the running for his signature. The Northern Echo reported this week that the Magpies had just £35 million to spend across the whole window.

Nevertheless, that has not stopped some Newcastle fans on Twitter asking whether they now have a better chance of signing Edouard – thanks to Christian Atsu.

Sports World Ghana reported on Tuesday that Celtic have made an enquiry for Atsu. And it is suggested that Newcastle are ready to let him go.

And some fans have reacted to the report suggesting Atsu could be Parkhead-bound by insisting that he should be used in a bid for Edouard.

Of course, it is difficult to see Celtic having any interest in such a bid. But there are clearly plenty of supporters who feel that Newcastle should at least ask the question.
