Newcastle fans react as Amanda Staveley issues statement on Steve Bruce

Amanda Staveley has confirmed in a statement on Newcastle’s website that Steve Bruce will be in place on Sunday – and Toon fans are surprised.

Following last week’s takeover, Newcastle are said to have been considering a new manager. But Bruce has remained in position until now.

Reports have linked Newcastle with the likes of Frank Lampard, Lucien Favre, Steven Gerrard, Brendan Rodgers and plenty more managers.

However, Bruce remains and will be taking charge of Newcastle on Sunday – as Staveley confirms. She says talks have been positive with Bruce.

But Staveley also leaves the door open for a new manager and says Bruce will be the first to know if and when they bring someone else in.

Is PSGs Business Model Destined To Fail?

“Steve has been very professional in our dealings with him and he and his coaching team will take the team on Sunday,” Staveley said.

“If we make any changes going forward, Steve will be the first to know but, in the meantime, we wish him the best of luck in his 1,000th match.”

Why are Newcastle fans surprised, as Staveley gives Bruce update?

The surprise does not come from Bruce remaining in charge, or that a new manager has not been brought in. Fans are surprised for another reason.

Indeed, the fact Toon fans are surprised is damning on Mike Ashley and the previous board. That is, because fans are surprised to hear communication.

They are surprised to hear Staveley actually listening to fans, and understanding their views and concerns – and answering them maturely.

Newcastle fans took to Twitter – and while many do want to see the back of Bruce, they are just happy and surprised to be kept in the loop.
