Kevin Mbabu was the difference for Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon as the right-back produced a stunning assist for substitute Daniel Ginczek to score an injury-time tap-in – and Newcastle supporters have reacted on Twitter.

The Bundesliga returned on Saturday and excited football fans watched on, as one of Europe’s biggest leagues ended a suspension that had lasted more than two months. All six matches on Saturday were played behind closed doors.

Wolfsburg, who sit in sixth place and are looking to remain in that position in order to secure Europa league qualification, were tasked with picking up three points away at Augsburg and they made an excelleny start.

Renato Steffan gave Wolfsburg the lead, only for Tin Jedvaj to equalise just after half-time. A number of missed chances followed, before Mbabu took the game by the scruff of the neck.

From right-back, the 25-year-old Switzerland international took on multiple defenders before reaching the byline for Ginczek to score in the 91st minute, securing a crucial three points for Wolfsburg.

Mbabu joined Wolfsburg last summer for around £8million (Goal) after five goals and 15 assists in 101 Young Boys outings. Before Young Boys, he had spent three and a half years on Newcastle’s books, but only managed five senior matches.

Toon supporters reacted to his performance on Twitter, with many applauding his display and questioning why Rafa Benitez sold him.
