Jonjo Shelvey made his first Newcastle United appearance in the Premier League since January in Saturday’s dramatic win over Everton – and many of the club’s supporters were thrilled with his contribution.

The Magpies overturned two-goal deficit to win 3-2 at St James’ Park against the Toffees.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison put Everton in front before half-time, while Matt Ritchie saw his penalty saved for the hosts.

But Rafael Benitez’s side showed their heart to remarkably score three times and earns vital three points considering teams down the bottom of the table won.

Many Newcastle fans singled out Shelvey for his pivotal substitute role, as Perez’s two strikes took place after he had entered the action.

The 27-year-old central midfielder has had to be patient waiting for his chance to get back in the team following an injury problem, but he sent out a message to Benitez at the weekend against Cardiff.

He showed some real nice touches and passes during his brief spell on the pitch, while everyone knows how good he can be when on form.
