Newcastle fans praise Miguel Almiron for pre-season performance

Miguel Almiron played 58 minutes in a pre-season victory over Saint-Etienne on Saturday – and some Newcastle United fans on Twitter raved about him.

The Magpies secured a 2-1 victory over the French side at St James’ Park in a friendly game and can now start thinking about their opening Premier League game against Arsenal.

Summer addition Joelinton got off the mark with a goal in the first-half and the centre-forward has a lot of pressure on him to deliver this season.

Meanwhile, academy graduate Matty Longstaff capped off a speculator pre-season with a great strike from range, before familiar face Mathieu Debuchy netted a consolation for the visitors.

A selection of Newcastle supporters were encouraged by Almiron’s display and are convinced he can play a key role under new boss Steve Bruce.

He did miss some goalscoring opportunities and he is still waiting for his first Magpies goal, but he’s lightning quick on the counter attack and very direct.

The 25-year-old attacker is a speed machine that is yet to score since he joined in January, but does inject some extra quality to the final third and is a nightmare for defenders.

It seems like he could form an interest combination with striker Joelinton and there will be pressure on him to weigh in with some goals.
