Newcastle fans praise Martin Dubravka’s performance in late away draw with Everton

Newcastle United pulled off late heroics to snatch a draw against Everton last night, grabbing a 2-2 in stoppage time.

Substitute defender Florian Lejeune netted an injury time brace to salvage a match which looked to be beyond them at the end of the 90 minutes.

It followed on from the late victory clinched against Chelsea on Saturday, with Steve Bruce’s side once again showing their resilience.

But they would not have still been in the game if it were not for the performance of Martin Dubravka between the sticks, who kept his side in it.

Many supporters on Twitter praised Dubravka’s performance as he continued his return to form in the new year and prompted comparisons with former Magpies stopper Shay Given.

There was a consensus that Dubravka is now better than the club legend, having played in a worse side and had to get his side out of trouble more often.

Dubravka deserved the acclaim – Newcastle would not have been in a position to launch their unlikely comeback without his display – and there was plenty of it.
