Newcastle United managed to scrape past League One opposition Oxford United on Tuesday night in the FA Cup – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter praised their defender Jamaal Lascelles for his performance.
The Magpies were held to a goalless draw at St James’ Park by Oxford in their previous meeting and they clashed again at the Kassam Stadium for the fourth round cup replay.
Steve Bruce’s team progressed 3-2 courtesy of Allan Saint-Maximin’s late winner in extra-time, but there were stages where it looked like a big upset may be on the cards.
Sean Longstaff and Joelinton both scored quality first-half goals to put visitors Newcastle into a comfortable position.
But Liam Kelly pulled one back with his free-kick in the 84th minute for Oxford and West Ham loanee Nathan Holland then volleyed in a 94th minute equaliser to send the game into another half an hour.
Newcastle did enough to progress in the end though and travel to Championship table toppers West Brom in the fifth round.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media picked out captain Lascelles for his commanding display in defence.
The centre-back was kept busy by a spirited Oxford side and put in a display that showed his experience.
He made an excellent goal-line clearance with a header at one stage, as well as taking a goal-bound shot from range straight into his chest as he put his body on the line.
The 26-year-old has just started to get a run of games after a couple of months sidelined with a knee injury and it looks like he’s rediscovering his form.
