Newcastle United suffered defeat in the FA Cup third round on Saturday evening – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did give credit to youngster Elliot Anderson for his debut performance.
The Magpies were beaten 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, albeit the contest went to extra time as the teams couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes.
Steve Bruce’s side were made to rue a couple of strong goalscoring chances, as Emile Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted two late goals in extra time for the Gunners.
They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals recently and Saturday’s FA Cup exit means they now have just the Premier League to compete in this season.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media believe that academy graduate Anderson was one positive and suggest he starts the next game, which is away to rock bottom Sheffield United on Tuesday in the Premier League.
The 18-year-old is a rising star to come through the Toon academy and he made his first-team debut when he was substituted onto the pitch in the 81st minute.
He showed great energy and some nice touches on the ball during his cameo performance, but ultimately his team fell short in extra time and the attacking midfielder may have felt he could’ve done better with a goalscoring opportunity in the penalty box.
