Newcastle fans open to idea of appointing target Mikel Arteta
Manchester City assistant Mikel Arteta is reportedly on a managerial shortlist – and some Newcastle United fans on Twitter are pleased by the speculation.
According to the Telegraph, the 37-year-old is one of four names drawn up on a shortlist by the Magpies.
It is understood that Patrick Vieira, Steven Gerrard and Eddie Howe are also being considered, while Sean Dyche and Steve Bruce are viewed as backup options.
The report details that the North East club want to look at bringing in a younger coach following the departure of Rafael Benitez this summer.
The Spaniard’s exit has hit many Newcastle supporters hard, but they will have to accept that a new man will be in charge next season.
A selection of Newcastle fans on social media have given a thumbs up to the Arteta links and believe he may be a strong fit.
The Spanish coach is currently the number two at Manchester City and will be soaking up so much from manager Pep Guardiola, who many view as the best in the world.
Arteta is a key part of the backroom staff at the Etihad Stadium and helped Manchester City to win back-to-back Premier Leagues, with many tipping him to become a future manager.

Arteta most interesting, but whilst MA is here it is all meaningless and ultimately irrelevant.

Would be interested to see Arteta

Really want Mikel Arteta, think he’s a real curve ball and can do well with us, maybe not as well as Rafa but he has a lot of knowledge of the game considering he’s Pep’s no 2.

Normally I’d love the idea of Arteta, but now it’s completely pointless whoever the manager is. Means absolutely nothing to me anymore.

I would like to see us take a chance with Arteta too, it would also keep Perez and almiron happy and we need to build around them if there is no takeover, which is prob the case
