Newcastle fans on Twitter wanted to see Santiago Munoz in U23s

Newcastle’s deadline day signing Santiago Munoz is yet to play for the club.

The fans were left questioning where the Mexican was last night.

Newcastle’s U23s fell to defeat against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League 2, with Munoz not involved.

The Mexican striker, whose name is eerily close to the fictional Santiago Munez, the star in the film Goal!, is yet to take to the pitch for the club.

He signed on transfer deadline day from Santos Laguna on an initial 18-month loan with an option to buy (BBC).

However, even though the player only signed to join up with the club’s academy system, the supporters really want to see him.

If things all go well for Munoz then he may even undergo a meteoric rise to the first team.

At the moment the Magpies are without Callum Wilson owing to injury.

That could potentially open up a place in the senior side for one of the club’s U23s if they step up.

However, Munoz, if he can’t get into the academy side then he won’t get close to the senior setup.

Both Elliot Anderson and Dylan Stephenson started in the defeat to West Brom.

The pair have earned plaudits for their displays in the Premier League 2 and could be rewarded with senior appearances.

It was even reported by the Chronicle that Stephenson has been promoted to the senior side at Newcastle.

The fans are far more interested in seeing Munoz star it seems.

The Mexican is one who has garnered a lot of attention from the supporters when he signed.

On a quiet deadline day he was the only signing at St. James’ Park.

Whether he’s in line for a debut any time soon is unclear, but the fans really want to see him soon.
