Newcastle United fans will have left St James’ Park gutted with their last-gasp defeat to Arsenal, but pretty pleased with the performance of their new number nine.
Nick Woltemade made it back-to-back Premier League goals at St James’ Park as he scored the opening goal of the game in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
The German towered over Gabriel Magalhaes; however, the Brazilian ended up having the last laugh, netting a late-winner from a corner.
But his impressive aerial ability aside, there was something else about their club-record signing which pleased the home supporters.

Newcastle United fans are hailing the link-up ability of Woltemade, despite their team’s defeat to Arsenal at St James’ Park.
Woltemade, who cost Newcastle £65m, is quickly endearing himself to the supporters at St James’ Park following what was a difficult summer losing Alexander Isak.
The 23-year-old is giving the Magpies a new hero to cheer for with another strong showing against the Gunners.

The striker only had one effort at goal during the match, but that is all he needed to find the back of the net, although he will be gutted it ended up counting for nothing.
After the game, Newcastle fans took to X to share their appreciation for Woltemade’s display and especially his link-up play.
One fan said: “I’m loving this Woltemade shift so far. The hold up play and link up with his team mates has been great to bring Newcastle up the pitch and retain possession. Add the goal to that and there’s nothing more you can ask from your centre forward.”
“So impressed with Nick Woltemade in the first half. His first touch and close control is absolutely superb, and his positional sense to link the play is leading to all of Newcastle’s best moments. Quickly adapting to Premier League life, it seems that in scoring both of his shots on target, Eddie Howe will be delighted with him,” claimed another fan.
There was yet more praise for the German international, with another fan stating: “Really impressed by Woltemade’s first 10 minutes. Comfortable dropping in and linking. Been very tidy on the ball. That too in very difficult conditions.”
Finally, one Newcastle fan said: “I have been mightily impressed by Woltemade! Insane hold up and link up play and obviously a scary aerial threat!”

Woltemade joins Alan Shearer and four other Newcastle players in scoring in his first two Premier League home games for the Tyneside club.
Les Ferdinand, Carlos Cordone, Papiss Cisse and Moussa Sissoko are the other Newcastle players to have managed the feat.
The former Stuttgart striker will have been desperate to get his account up and running quickly, and he’s now done that with two key goals on Tyneside.
Newcastle fans will now hope he can continue to score goals for them and bounce back from the defeat of losing it so late on against Mikel Arteta’s team.
