Newcastle fans impressed with Jetro Willems on his debut

Jetro Willems made his debut for Newcastle United on Saturday in the pre-season win over Saint-Etienne – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter were impressed with his performance.

Steve Bruce’s team beat French opposition 2-1 at home, with Joelinton and Matty Longstaff both on the scoresheet.

The Magpies commence their Premier League season next weekend against Arsenal at St James’ Park and are gearing up nicely for it.

Centre-forward Joelinton is one of the summer additions made by Bruce and he will be tasked with trying to fill the void left by loanee Salomon Rondon.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have recently completed deals for defender Willems and winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

Willems has moved to the North-East on a season-long loan spell from Eintracht Frankfurt and is set for his first taste of English football.

The 25-year-old left-back has arrived to strengthen defensive options and could be rivalling Matt Ritchie for a position.

He is a Dutch full-back with tremendous pace and attacking quality, something he showed when he was involved in the build up for Longstaff’s strike from outside the box.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media were impressed with the cameo from Willems, as he was thrown straight into the action.
