Steve Bruce watched his side suffer a second-half collapse as Newcastle United were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur on Tyneside – and Toon fans have hammered his decision not to start Valentino Lazaro.
A brace from Harry Kane – which took the England captain above 200 club goals – was the difference after Matt Ritchie’s thunderbolt cancelled out Son Heung-min’s first-half opener. The Toon hit the post through Dwight Gayle.
Manager Bruce sprung a somewhat surprising decision with his starting line-up, as he fielded right-back DeAndre Yedlin on the right side of midfield – perhaps to cope with the attacking prowess of Son – which failed.

It also saw Inter Milan loanee Lazaro miss out. However, the Austria international came onto the field of play in the second half in place of Yedlin, and instantly had an impact – playing a crucial part in the Toon’s equaliser.
His direct style of play saw him run at the heart of the Tottenham defence and force a mistake from Serge Aurier, who gifted the ball to Ritchie – before the former Bournemouth star lashed home an effort into the top corner.
Toon supporters have stated on Twitter that they could not believe Bruce’s decision to start Yedlin over Lazaro – with the loanee proving Bruce’s decision to leave him on the bench was a mistake.
