Newcastle fans hammer Miguel Almiron as Leicester inflict heavy defeat

Newcastle United were battered 5-0 by Leicester City on Sunday evening as Brendan Rodgers’ side took advantage of Isaac Hayden’s first-half red card – and Toon fans have blasted the performance of Miguel Almiron.

Ricardo Pereira gave Leicester the lead after just 16 minutes, scoring an excellent solo effort as he drove from the halfway line through the Toon midfield before placing a superb left-footed effort into the bottom corner past Martin Dubravka.

The game was almost settled in the 43rd minute, as Isaac Hayden was shown a straight red card by referee Craig Pawson. The former Arsenal star was guilty of a challenge deemed reckless by Pawson, on Leicester midfielder Dennis Praet.

A brace from Jamie Vardy put the game beyond doubt, either side of a Paul Dummett own goal. Wilfried Ndidi made it five late on. Leicester cruised to three points, which pushed the Foxes into third place. Newcastle, meanwhile, sit in 19th place with five points from seven games.

January signing Almiron, who agreed a move to Newcastle from MLS side Atlanta United, struggled throughout the game. He did very little throughout the first 45, after being ushered out to the right flank by Steve Bruce.

With the sending off, Newcastle were out of possession for the majority of the second half and the Paraguay international struggled to get involved. He was substituted in the 73rd minute, with DeAndre Yedlin replacing him.

Many Toon fans were unsympathetic though, criticising the Rafa Benitez signing.
