Newcastle fans hail Tom Allan’s performance for Under-23s against Sunderland

Newcastle United’s Under-23s beat rivals Sunderland on Friday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter hailed their youngster Tom Allan for his performance.

The Magpies secured a 2-0 victory over their Tyne-Wear rivals in a Premier League 2 fixture at St James’ Park.

Allan opened the scoring in the opening two minutes for the hosts with a close-range finish and he impressed throughout the contest.

The 20-year-old winger has been a mainstay with the Under-23s side this campaign, but did make his first-team debut in January during the FA Cup third round replay win against Rochdale.

Meanwhile, Newcastle teammate Yannick Toure headed in a second against Sunderland on Friday to help secure the victory.

Sean and Matty Longstaff are two players in recent time that have made the leap from the academy to the first-team, which show there is a path for players if they are good enough.

Senior boss Steve Bruce does have plenty of options in wide areas with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu.

But skilful winger Allan surely has to be knocking on the door if he continues to be a goal threat at youth level and perhaps he will get a chance in the next round of the FA Cup against West Brom in the fifth round.

He is a Newcastle-born talent playing for his boyhood club and has a lot of potential to fulfil.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media picked out Allan following his efforts against Sunderland and are tipping him to break into the first-team fold.
