Newcastle fans hail Christian Atsu after his display against Watford

Newcastle United recorded a 1-1 draw at home to Watford on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter were impressed by the performance of Christian Atsu.

Visitors Watford were in front through Will Hughes’ early goal, as the ball fell to him from a deflection and he tucked it in.

But Steve Bruce’s team drew level before half-time and it was defender Fabian Schar that finished on his favoured left foot from close-range.

The Magpies couldn’t find the cutting edge at St James’ Park and had to settle for a draw, which means they have four points from their opening four league games going into the international break.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media picked out Atsu for his efforts and believe he was a real standout.

The 27-year-old earned his first start of the Premier League this campaign, as he came off the bench last weekend to impress in the win over Tottenham with an assist.

He is a left-winger with great pace and technical ability, something he showed against Watford and had a great work-rate.

It seems like the penny may have dropped for him under Bruce and he will hope that he can force his way into the XI on a permanent basis.

Here are some Newcastle fans discussing Atsu:
