Newcastle United have announced that midfielder Sean Longstaff is set to miss the rest of the season through injury – and many of the club’s supporters on Twitter are upset by the news.
The Magpies have confirmed (official website) that the 21-year-old is “likely” to be absent for the remainder of the campaign with a knee ligament injury.
He had been enjoying a brilliant 2019 after breaking into the starting XI and has been nominated for the Premier League player of the month for February.
But he’s going to have to watch on from the sidelines over the next few months, as Rafael Benitez’s side continue their push to get over the line for top-flight safety.

Longstaff is a product of the club’s academy and his senior rise this season has been phenomenal.
The central midfielder moved to the top of the club’s pecking order with some matured displays and there has been a lot of excitement around St James’ Park over him.
He will now have to try bounce back at the beginning of next season and force himself into the picture again, but his absence will open the door for the likes of Ki Sung-Yueng and Jonjo Shelvey.
Here are some of the Newcastle fans reacting to Longstaff’s injury blow:
