Newcastle fans give striker Yoshinori Muto vote of confidence

Newcastle United centre-forward Yoshinori Muto has reflected on a disappointing first season at St James’ Park – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded to his post with some encouraging words.

The 26-year-old has just had his first year in English football draw to a close and it’s not quite gone to plan for him at the Magpies.

He cost £9.5million (BBC) last summer from German club Mainz and was expected to add some firepower in attack.

The striker has made just 18 senior appearances across the entire season and scored only one goal in return.

He was unable to get ahead of teammate Salomon Rondon in the pecking order and not quite done enough to impress manager Rafael Benitez.

Muto has written a post (official Twitter) where he reflect on a “tough season”, but he’s hoping to improve next year.

A selection of Newcastle fans on social media have shown huge support and feel he can still have a future with them.

Muto showed in the Bundesliga previously that he can be a goal threat and he has immense work-rate.

The Japan international did have this season disrupted by the Asian Games in January and some feel that didn’t help him build any momentum.

Here are some Newcastle fans replying to Muto:
