Jack Colback will reportedly remain with Newcastle United for the new season – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are furious.

According to the Chronicle, the 29-year-old will “almost certainly” stay at St James’ Park in the 2019/20 campaign.

The report details that he would have been heading for the exit doors if Rafael Benitez was still in charge, but new boss Steve Bruce has wiped the slate clean and given him a fresh chance.

It is understood that Bruce feels he will be useful and the pair know each other from previous time at Sunderland.

Colback is set for a reprieve in the North-East and has the opportunity to be playing Premier League football again.

The left-footed midfielder spent last season out on loan with Nottingham Forest in the Championship and has now returned to a new-look Newcastle.

He’s a central midfielder by trade with a good work-rate, but has the versatility to slot in at left-back when needed too.

A selection of Newcastle supporters are convinced that Colback doesn’t deserve a second chance in the first-team squad and would rather he exited.

He now looks set to compete alongside the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Ki Sung-Yueng, Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden.
