Newcastle fans excited about speculation on Philipp Max

Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Augsburg defender Philipp Max – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter want to complete a swoop.

According to the Chronicle, the Bundesliga left-back has been “pushed forward” as a potential signing this summer.

The report explains that the 25-year-old has been offered to Newcastle from the German club and that he would cost around £18million.

It is understood that new manager Steve Bruce does want to bring a left-back to St James’ Park during the summer window, but it’s unclear on if Max is someone he wants.

Max has been a brilliant performer in Germany during recent years as an attack-minded full-back and he could potentially rip it up in the Premier League.

He scored four goals and supplied seven assists in just 34 games for Augsburg last season across all competitions, which highlights his threat when he goes forward.

Newcastle’s success in recent years has been built around a solid defence, but Max would give them some more creative ammunition with his crossing and attacking threat.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media have urged the club to take up the offer to sign Max and splash the cash for him.

Brazilian Joelinton has already arrived as Bruce’s first signing and it appears like he is being backed in the market.
