Newcastle United are believed to hold an interest in Benfica attacker Rafa Silva – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are doubtful they will be able to sign him.

Football agent Antonio Araujo has explained that Newcastle are keen in bringing the 25-year-old to St James’ Park (RR Sapo).

He went on to explain that he has a release clause at around £51million and also that Benfica are trying to negotiate a new deal with him to secure his long-term future.

Silva is a highly-rated attacker that has 15 senior International caps for Portugal and has been in fine form this season.

The left-winger has scored a remarkable 19 goals in 42 games across all competitions for Benfica and has decent pedigree.

He is a dazzling wide man that has good pace and trickery, while he’s proven himself in front of goal too.

A selection of Newcastle fans on social media are adamant that Silva’s price tag alone is enough to suggest they have no chance of signing him in the summer.

Newcastle did break their own transfer record in January, as they signed Miguel Almiron from the MLS in a £20million deal (BBC).

Rafael Benitez’s future beyond this year is yet to be announced, but it appears that transfer targets are still being drawn up.

Here are some Magpies fans doubting the potential swoop for Silva:
