Newcastle United are reportedly interested in a move for CSKA Moscow defender Mario Fernadnes – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by doubting the speculation.
According to the Daily Star, the Magpies are lining up a potential £26.5million offer for the right-back this summer.
It is understood that the North East club believe they can beat Atletico Madrid to his signature if they move quickly.
Fernandes has made 34 appearances across all competitions this season for Russian club CSKA and mainly played as a right wing-back.
The Russia international is a speed merchant that loves to bomb forward into attack and he’s got nine assists under his belt this term.
He would be coming in to replace DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillio in the starting XI if he moves to St James’ Park.
A selection of Newcastle fans have doubted whether the club would be prepared to smash their transfer record for the defender.
The Magpies signed Miguel Almiron for £20million (BBC) back in January and that broke their previous transfer record that stood for 14 years.
They are also keen on the future of manager Rafael Benitez to be resolved first before any transfer activity.
Here are some Newcastle fans commenting on the Fernandes speculation:
We wont pay that much for a striker , we are definitely not paying it for a rb
