Newcastle Untied are reportedly interested in Benfica defender Andre Almeida – and some of the club’s supporters on twitter have reacted by suggesting it’s highly unlikely they will be able to sign him.
According to Record, the Magpies and Leicester City are both eyeing the 28-year-old from the Portuguese top-flight.
The right-back has just enjoyed a strong campaign with Benfica, where he made 53 appearances across all competitions and had plenty of experience in European football.
He’s an attack-minded defender that supplied 12 assists during the most recent campaign and is a threat going forward.
The Portuguese flyer has played 250 times for Benfica, but has never played outside of his homeland and is now being linked with a switch to England.
A selection of Newcastle fans don’t believe that the 28-year-old will move to St James’ Park this summer and are more concerned for the situation around manager Rafael Benitez to be resolved.
DeAndre Yedlin is already the first-choice option at right-back for the Magpies and had another fairly consistent campaign in the team.
The American is a speed machine that has matured nicely in the Premier League, but the Benfica target would be an upgrade.
Here are some Newcastle fans commenting on Almeida:
