Newcastle fans discuss Valentino Lazaro’s display against Manchester City

Newcastle United were easily beaten by Manchester City 5-0 at The Etihad as David Silva produced a masterclass in midfield – and frustrated Toon fans have praised Valentino Lazaro for his performance.

Lazaro, 24, was handed his first start since the return to Premier League football as Allan Saint-Maximin missed Wednesday night’s clash with an injury. But the Inter Milan loanee could do nothing to prevent a rampant City.

It took City just 10 minutes to open the scoring, as Lazaro failed to track a run from Silva who crossed for Gabriel Jesus.  Lazaro then gave the ball away for the second goal, as Kevin De Bruyne cut back for Riyad Mahrez to net.

A run from Jesus ended up seeing City score a third, as Matt Ritchie’s tackle deflected into the net off of Federico Fernandez. The game was one-way traffic throughout, as Silva continued his excellence with a stunning free-kick.

Austria international Lazaro lasted 66 minutes before being taken off Steve Bruce, before Raheem Sterling netted in injury time to round off a 5-0 win for City. Newcastle seemed hapless in their bid to avoid defeat.

Newcastle supporters reacted on Twitter to Lazaro’s performance and even though the winger was arguably at fault for City’s first two goals – many praised the player in a very disappointing night for the Toon.
