Newcastle fans discuss Tottenham defender Joe Rodon, amid loan reports

Newcastle United have reportedly identified Tottenham defender Joe Rodon as a potential loan signing in the January transfer window – and Toon fans have responded to the news on Twitter.

Rodon, 24, has only featured six times for Tottenham this season. Only one of those has come in Antonio Conte’s six games in charge, and that was the defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.

The 22-time Wales international has been somewhat harshly treated – perhaps deserving of more game time than he actually has been afforded. But Eric Dier, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies are first choice.

Cover for Davies is somewhat non-existent, given there are no other left-footed options. Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga are ideal to cover Romero, and £10,000-a-week (Spotrac) Rodon as back-up to Dier.

But unfortunately for Rodon, Dier has been one of Tottenham’s most in-form players this season. The Mail claim Rodon is one of five players added to Newcastle’s shortlist ahead of the January window.

What are Newcastle fans saying about Tottenham defender Rodon?

Newcastle need a centre-back. The Toon have Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark and Fede Fernandez, while Emil Krafth and Paul Dummett can play either side of the main centre-back.

But Clark has been criticised, Schar is injury prone, Krafth is a right-back and Dummett is probably a Championship player at best. A centre-back or two is ideal, and Rodon’s battling nature makes him ideal.

Newcastle fans have had their say on reports they could sign Rodon – and many believe he would be a good addition. Rodon is represented by the same agency that look after Jonjo Shelvey, as per TransferMarkt.
