Newcastle fans discuss reports they could raid Arsenal and land £5m Wenger signing

Arsenal midfielder Mo Elneny is one of a number of names on a list of Newcastle United targets according to Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope – and Newcastle fans have discussed the Egyptian on Twitter.

As January approaches, Newcastle’s new owners are still without a sporting director to oversee the club’s transfer windows. But they are acquiring targets, and compiling shortlists.

Hope writes in the Mail that Newcastle have five players on their shortlist – in the form of overseas defenders Sven Botman and Matthias Ginter. Tottenham defender Joe Rodon is another option, on loan.

Bournemouth ace Lloyd Kelly could reunite with Eddie Howe, while Arsenal’s Elneny is out of contract at the end of the season. He has been in and out of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side this season.

Indeed, the £5million Arsene Wenger signing (Bleacher Report) has only managed 150 minutes of Premier League action all season – spread across five outings. He did start in the 3-2 loss to Manchester United.

What are Newcastle fans saying about a move for Arsenal ace Elneny?

There is no doubt that Newcastle need a midfielder. Steve Bruce wanted a defender and a midfielder last summer, but only managed to convince Mike Ashley to make Joe Willock’s loan a permanent one.

Newcastle still need additions in those areas and it is clear that is what the new owners are targeting. Elneny would be an easy deal to pull off, given Arsenal will want some cash for him in January.

They would surely sell next month, than lose him for nothing. A loan could also be a possibility, and then a permanent signing in the summer on a free. Newcastle fans gave a mixed reaction on Twitter.
