Reports emerged over the weekend that Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier would cost Newcastle United a bargain £15million in January. Toon fans have responded, urging a deal to be done.
Trippier, 31, is a current La Liga champion having played a crucial role in Diego Simeone’s side last season. Since joining Atleti in the summer of 2019 from Tottenham, he has clocked up 84 appearances in all competitions.
But the 35-time England star has not hidden his desire to return to the Premier League. Trippier was signed by Eddie Howe at Burnley, and now it looks as if the two could form a reunion on Tyneside.
The Mail report that Atleti will now sanction his exit if they receive a fee of £15million for Trippier, and are able to bring in a replacement. Trippier’s current deal expires in June 2023 – making him a possibility to leave.

Trippier to Newcastle: Fans are desperate to get a deal done
Newcastle need a right-back. While centre-back is probably the biggest problem area on Tyneside, the next-worst issue is right-back. Jacob Murphy has been playing as a right-back at times.
Javi Manquillo has never really been good enough, while Emil Krafth is not ideal – and is often used on the right side of a back three. Newcastle need a right-sided defender and there are not many better than Trippier.
If it goes through, it is a huge coup for a side that could be relegated next summer. A relegation clause is likely to be included, but Newcastle fans have urged their side to get a deal done for Trippier – at £15million.
