Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has signed a new long-term contract at St James’ Park – and some of the club’s supporters are thrilled with the news.

The Magpies confirmed on their official website that the shot-stopper has penned a fresh six-year deal.

He is now under contract until 2025 and has been one of the elite performers in the team ever since he first moved to the North East.

Dubravka moved to Newcastle in January 2018 on an initial six-month loan deal and it was during that time that he made a name for himself in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old returned on a permanent basis last summer and has been a consistent performer as the number one.

He has retained his position this term under new manager Steve Bruce and has three clean sheets in the opening nine league matches so far.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media are buzzing about Dubravka committing his long-term future to the club and view him as one of the elite players.

The Slovakia international would surely cost a fortune if another club came calling for him and he’s someone that is definitely capable of mixing it with the top teams.

Newcastle’s defence is the strongest part of the team and it’s going forward they need to try improve if they want to climb up the table.
