Newcastle fans credit Karl Darlow despite loss against Brentford
Newcastle United were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Championship side Brentford on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter picked out Karl Darlow as a rare positive from the result.
The Magpies were beaten 1-0 away to Brentford in the quarter-finals, with man of the match Josh Dasilva scoring an excellent volley in the second-half for the second-tier club to give them a deserved win.
Despite naming a fairly strong starting XI, Steve Bruce’s men completely blew an opportunity to get to the semi-finals of the competition and lacked a cutting edge in the final third.
Brentford arguably had the better chances throughout the contest and their quick front-foot approach caught the visitors out on a few occasions.

A selection of Newcastle supporters on social media were left furious by the result, but felt that goalkeeper Darlow was at least one man who deserved credit for his individual effort.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper could do very little about Silva’s winning strike, but pulled off a couple of reflex saves to keep him team in the contest and they turned out to be in vein.
He’s been the club’s most consistent performers this season after stepping in for injured number one Martin Dubravka and so often has bailed his team out defensively, but at the other end of the pitch the attack has been inconsistent.
Here are some Magpies fans discussing Darlow:
Darlow best player for us against tonight other than him I'd have to say yedlin hes one of very few who tried to get the team forward players shud ignore Bruce's tatics and just play their own football their not idiots #nufc

Speechless. Sack them all apart from Big Cal and Darlow.

Darlow surely for England. Saves us every week. This is shocking today we actually had no game plan.
