Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has come under real criticism from some fans on Twitter after his comments on Friday about Miguel Almiron.
Magpies boss Bruce explained in his press conference today about how to get the best out of Almiron.
He suggested that the 27-year-old is most effective operating in a central attacking position behind a striker, something which has really angered some supporters on social media.
“I’ve said many times, if everybody was like Miggy my job would be very easy. He’s got a heart the size of himself and has a real natural ability. His best position is off the front and the key to it is scoring or making a goal,” Bruce said.
Paraguay international Almiron has played a lot of his Newcastle career as a wide player since his move to St James’ Park in January 2019, which was six months before Bruce’s appointment at the helm.
He’s a speed machine that is surely one of the fastest in the Premier League when he flies forward and has got an infectious work-rate.
But the left-footer is often criticised for his lack of end product, scoring 13 goals and setting up five assists in 80 appearances for the Toon since he joined.
Almiron has been used in a number 10 attacking role a lot more in the past few weeks, something which fans are convinced was obvious a long time ago and are frustrated it’s taken so long to happen regularly.
Here are some Newcastle fans discussing Bruce’s latest comments:

Only took Bruce nearly 2 years to work out his best position. What a manager.

And how many times did Bruce play him out wide as a defensive wide midfielder or even as part of the midfield three?
