Newcastle United enjoyed a fruitful Saturday afternoon as they hammered Leicester City 4-0 in their Premier League clash at St James’ Park.

The Magpies opened the scoring in the 30th minute as Anthony Gordon’s cut-back from the by-line was slotted home by Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle then made it 2-0 in the 47th minute as Gordon and Lewis Hall combined to set up Bruno Guimaraes for a close-range header.

And just three minutes later, Eddie Howe’s side had their third, Alexander Isak heading home after Hall’s cross came off Conor Coady in the area.

Newcastle added a fourth on the hour mark as Isak toyed with the Leicester defence before setting up Murphy for his second of the game.

While plenty of Newcastle players impressed on the day, fans were especially eager to praise two Magpies stars who combined incredibly well.

Newcastle duo Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon were excellent individually, but their link-up play down the left was something to behold.

Fans on X raved about the left-hand combination, with one saying: “Impressive link up play once again shown by Gordon and Hall.”

Another said “Hall and Gordon improving all the time down the left is good to see” while one said that “having both Lewis Hall and Gordon at left side is criminal. Superstars.”

The praise kept coming as the game went on, with one supporter saying: “This was the Gordon-Hall link play we were expecting. Both exceptional today and together.”

And at full time, one fan wrote: “Huge win considering our recent performances, never looked in doubt but special mentions to Gordon and Hall, sensational together today.”

How the media rated Hall and Gordon

Chronicle Live gave Hall a perfect 10 out of 10 rating, while Gordon received a score of 9 out of 10.

“A faultless performance, really,” they wrote about Hall. “One assist and heavily involved offensively. Easily star man and England’s first choice left-back!”

And of Gordon, they wrote: “Another to excel with an assist and big hand in other key moments.”

Meanwhile, the Northern Echo gave a 9 out of 10 rating to both Hall and Gordon.

“Yet another excellent display from the defender, who could very easily be Newcastle’s Player of the Season so far,” they said of Hall.

“Solid defensively and so effective going forward. Headed across for Bruno’s goal.”

And of Gordon, they wrote: “Was at it from the off. Forced good early save from Hermansen.

“Always a threat. Created two of the four goals and had a hand in Bruno’s.”

Newcastle are next in action on Wednesday night as they host Brentford in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies’ next Premier League game is next Saturday as they’re away at Ipswich Town.
