Porto produced a stunning performance to knock Juventus out of the Champions League and earn a place in the quarter-finals of the competition – despite going into extra-time with 10 men, and Newcastle fans have discussed one player’s performance.

The Portuguese side were tasked with holding on to their slender lead, having won the first leg 2-1. They took a giant leap towards qualification when Sergio Oliveira scored a penalty on 19 minutes. Federico Chiesa equalised just before the break.

Porto made it much harder for themselves – with Mehdi Taremi being sent off. Chiesa notched a second and Juve were dominating as the match went into extra-time, only for Oliveira to score a second in a crazy game. Adrien Rabiot also netted.

The match ended 3-2 to Juventus on the night but that meant Porto went through, with two away goals. Porto’s defence were incredible, making blocks, clearances and throwing their body on the line on numerous occasions as Juve enjoyed domination.

Indeed, Andrea Pirlo’s men had 31 attempts at goal and 69% possession. But 38-year-old Pepe and ex-Newcastle man Mbemba combined to stop the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Alvaro Morata and Juve’s other attacking stars.

Mbemba, 26, has come a long way from failing to get a kick at Newcastle under Rafa Benitez. Sold for just £7million (Northern Echo), Newcastle fans discussed Mbemba’s performance and were stunned at just how good he was for Porto.
