Newcastle United are likely to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window.

The Magpies boast plenty of financial muscle following their long-awaited takeover.

However, Newcastle remain in a Premier League relegation battle, so they have to recruit accordingly.

According to Sky Sports, Magpies boss Eddie Howe has compiled a transfer wishlist, which the board will try to pursue.

One of the players on Howe’s purported transfer list is Zenit St Petersburg and Iran striker Sardar Azmoun.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and bound to have plenty of suitors after him.

Azmoun’s goal tally for club and country is impressive.

He has 10 goals and four assists from 21 Zenit games this season, including two Champions League goals.

Azmoun’s overall tally for his club reads 104 games, 62 assists and 23 assists.

In addition, the 6ft 1in ace has 39 goals from 60 Iran appearances.

And according to GFFN, Azmoun – who’s also been linked with Lyon – has a £17million price tag.

As far as transfer targets go, Azmoun isn’t too unrealistic.

His contract’s almost up, he’s won everything there is to win in Russia, his team’s out of the Champions League, and he’d get the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
