Newcastle eyeing loan swoop for £70k-a-week ace who’s just like Modric – report

Newcastle United have reportedly drawn up a list of Premier League players they want to try to sign on loan.

According to 90Min, one of those is Manuel Lanzini, the West Ham and Argentina playmaker.

Newcastle are eager to strengthen their ranks in a bid to survive relegation from the Premier League.

English top-flight rules rules state that clubs can only sign two players on loan from domestic rivals.

Newcastle currently have none, so it makes sense for them to make the most of the loan market.

And if they were to land Lanzini, they’d be getting themselves a player who’s similar in style to Luka Modric.

Newcastle eyeing Modric 2.0?

Lanzini initially joined West Ham on loan in 2015 from UAE club Al Jazira.

The Hammers subsequently bought him for a reported £8million.

Lanzini has made 176 appearances for the club, registering 25 goals and 25 assists.

“I have never seen a player who reminds me of Luka Modric as much as Manuel Lanzini,” Slaven Bilic wrote in The Evening Standard six years ago, via Fotmob.

The 28-year-old struggled for a while following a serious injury in the summer of 2018.

However, he has shown glimpses of his old self over the past few months, forcing his way back into the side.

Can Newcastle land Lanzini?

In all fairness, the Magpies will struggle to sign the £70,000-a-week ace on loan.

Lanzini is giving David Moyes food for thought with how he’s progressing in recent months.

And West Ham’s squad is incredibly stretched as it is, so it’s hard to imagine they’d be letting people leave.
