Newcastle eyeing £15m forward who's been compared to Sadio Mane - report
Newcastle United are in real need of bolstering their attacking ranks in the January transfer window.
While Kieran Trippier’s imminent arrival is a good start, the Magpies must strengthen across the board.
Newcastle’s front line is in particular need of fresh legs, even before Callum Wilson’s injury.
According to the Daily Mail, the 29-year-old will be sent for more scans at the end of this week.
In the event of a prolonged absence, Newcastle will look to source attacking reinforcements.
And according to The Sun, the Magpies have set their sights on Marseille’s Bamba Dieng.
The outlet claims Newcastle are weighing up whether to make a move this month or in summer.
Dieng is currently away with Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 21-year-old broke into Marseille’s first team this season.
For his efforts, the club rewarded him with an improved contract last month.
Dieng graduated from the FC Diambars set-up in Senegal that Patrick Vieira co-founded in 2000.
He moved to Marseille in 2020 and won his first full international cap last October.
Get Football News France mentions comparisons between Dieng and iconic attacking duo Didier Drogba and Sadio Mane.
The outlet also quotes Jorge Sampaoli as saying: “He has a lot of explosiveness and a good quality of shot.
“He’s a player with great potential for the club.”
