Newcastle United appear nowhere near done in their efforts to bring in new players before the transfer deadline slams shut on Monday night, with the club now set to target a move for Wolves defender, Conor Coady.

The Mags are looking to bolster their defensive ranks if they can and according to the Daily Star, Wolves skipper Coady is the latest name to emerge on Eddie Howe’s wanted list. Coady, 28, is a massive figure at Molineux and Bruno Lage would surely be fuming if the club agreed to let him go, whatever the price.

The Daily Star suggests Newcastle will test Wolves’ resolve with a £25m bid. However, that’s unlikely to be enough and it’s claimed Wolves will only wilt if a huge offer that’s too good to turn down comes along.

Coady has developed magnificently over the last few seasons and has become one of the best defenders in the Premier League. He was given the nod for England in the Euros, and manager Gareth Southgate has lauded the Wolves man’s ‘infectious personality’ around the camp.

Newcastle, meanwhile, completed a deal for Bruno Guimaraes this weekend. They now want a defender, with Brighton’s Dan Burn also on their radar.

TBR’s View: Coady Is A Dream Signing For Newcastle

If you’re looking for a player who ticks all the boxes for a Newcastle defender, then Conor Coady is that man.

Experienced, good with the ball, and a leader, Coady really has a bit of everything. He’d be a sure-fire hit in the northeast if he did leave and it’s easy to see why Eddie Howe wants him.

However, other than financial incentives, there really seems no reason for Coady to leave Wolves. He’s settled, well-liked, and he’s club captain. Surely, then, it would only be an astronomical offer that convinces Wolves here.
