Newcastle United have confirmed that Rafa Benitez will leave the club at the end of month when his Toon contract expires, after three-and-a-half years at St. James’ Park – and plenty of Toon stars have reacted on social media.
Fans are beside themselves already after the north east club announced Benitez will not be remaining in the hotseat. Indeed, the Toon have been begging owner Mike Ashley to keep the former Real Madrid manager.
But those pleas have gone unnoticed, and instead Newcastle are now on the lookout for a new manager. Former Birmingham City boss Garry Monk is being linked, but it remains to be seen who will replace Benitez.
Newcastle’s stars have reacted on social media, with DeAndre Yedlin and Ayoze Perez taking to Instagram to thank Benitez for their time under the Spanish boss. Salomon Rondon also posted on Twitter.

TBR’s view – Newcastle foolish to let Benitez go
Newcastle letting Benitez go is an enormous mistake that takes the Toon from expected mid-table safety next season, to a main contender for relegation.
It is bewildering to think that Benitez has not been tied down by Ashley. The former Chelsea and Liverpool gaffer has taken a squad, still filled with many players from their Championship promotion, to two excellent top-tier seasons.
Yedlin, Rondon and Perez’s posts on social media prove just how much Newcastle’s players adored the manager, and how much of a blow they will feel by his departure.
