Newcastle United signed defender Emil Krafth in the summer from French club Amiens and he arrived at St James’ Park to boost competition in the right-back area.
With DeAndre Yedlin absent in the early stages of the campaign, manager Steve Bruce has given the new addition a good chance to prove himself.
The 25-year-old full-back has started four of the five Premier League games so far and is yet to really make his mark in English football.
Aside from the remarkable victory over Tottenham, he has struggled in the Magpies backline and was vulnerable in the defeat away to Liverpool at the weekend.
Krafth was substituted off after being given a torrid time at Anfield definitely, while going forward he lacks quality and blasted a great goalscoring opportunity over the crossbar.
Newcastle face Brighton on Saturday in their next game and Javier Manquillo should be drafted back into the XI at the expense of Krafth.
Manquillo has been a little unfortunate to spend a lot of time on the bench so far this season, despite an impressive individual showing when he started the opening day 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.
The 25-year-old Spaniard has done very little to be dropped by Bruce and the team will look a little stronger if he slots back in at right-back.
Yedlin’s return to injury means he is another right-back that will soon be in contention, but Manquillo deserves his shot in the side and recent signs are that he has been improving.
