Newcastle United haven’t really got going in the summer transfer window so far.
The Magpies haven’t made a major signing so far this summer, with their only additions being free transfer and a deal for Odysseas Vlachodimos that was largely done to help with Profit and Sustainability rules.
However, that could be about to change.
Indeed, according to Luke Edwards, Newcastle are very close to making a signing.
Speaking on NUFC 360, the journalist says that Newcastle could make a signing before the weekend, but he can’t reveal the name of the player the Magpies could be bringing in just yet.
Newcastle set to make new signing
Edwards shared a cryptic update on Newcastle.
“I think they are close to making a signing. I’ve been told they are close. I’m hoping before the weekend, but that is what I’ve been led to believe something will happen before the weekend.
“Everybody is out in Japan, I know people want a name, I have a couple of names that I have to keep to myself, I’m not 100% certain and I don’t want to write a name that isn’t true, but trying to get anything out of Newcastle at the moment, everyone is trying to keep it a closely guarded secret. I have an idea who it is, but I’m not 100% certain.”

Who Newcastle’s mystery signing could be
While it’s impossible to say for sure who this mystery signing could be, there’s no harm in taking an educated guess.
Indeed, we can make an assumption that Malick Thiaw could be the player in question here.
It was stated last week that Thiaw is the player that Newcastle are closest to signing, and there’s been no suggestion that the Magpies’ interest in the German has waned.
It may not be long before the identity of this mystery player is revealed, and it wouldn’t be a shock if it was Thiaw.
