Newcastle could regret Freddie Woodman exit with two clubs potentially keen

Newcastle could regret losing Freddie Woodman in the summer, as he is reportedly on the radar of two clubs ahead of a potential swoop.

According to the Shields Gazette, the 22-year-old could be set for a move to Arsenal next season to try help him pursue more regular first-team action.

It is understood that Arsenal need a replacement for Petr Cech and are scouting the Magpies shot-stopper.

The report further details that Scottish giants Celtic could also be in the race for his signature after scouting him.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is believed to be keen on keeping the England Under-21 international, but the player wants an exit to help further his career.

It could come back to bite Newcastle if they lose Woodman in the summer, who will see his current deal at St James’ Park expire in 2020.

The youngster may not be ready for permanent football now and be prone to errors, but he’s an excellent option for the long-term and should be kept.

He’s made just three senior appearances, but should be the permanent number two option to Martin Dubravka.

Neither Rob Elliot or Karl Darlow have the quality to become successors of Dubravka, but Woodman is an exciting talent that could learn a lot from him and losing him would be a blow.
