Another day, and another Newcastle manager rumour for everyone to digest, this time, in the form of Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.
The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle are looking at bringing in former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars as their new direct of football. The 48-year-old is highly-regarded in Holland, and has had huge success with Ajax.
However, alongside Overmars, Newcastle could also end up landing Erik ten Hag as their new manager, too. The Mirror claims Overmars would look to bring the 51-year-old to the Northeast with him. This, despite reports we covered yesterday which suggested a deal for Paulo Fonseca was close.
Ten Hag is regarded as one of the best coaches in Europe. Indeed, he was one of Tottenham’s number one managerial targets in the summer before they eventually set Nuno Santo on.
Newcastle are looking to ensure they get the right man in following Steve Bruce’s departure. Fonseca is just one name being linked, while Frank Lampard is said to have pulled out of the race.
TBR’s View: Ten Hag will have Newcastle fans excited
Now this is the sort of progressive and experienced managers who Newcastle fans could buy into, certainly.
Ten Hag is one of the best coaches in Europe. His work with Ajax, where he has predominantly had young players at his disposal, has been excellent. He is also a winner, having won the Dutch title twice and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
Of course, Overmars coming is a massive boost as well. The Toon need that Director of Football role filling with someone more than capable. Overmars is definitely that.
And if he brings Ten Hag along with him, then all the more reason for Newcastle fans to be happy. Poor old Paulo Fonseca must be wondering if he will ever get his Premier League job at this rate!
