Newcastle United could end up paying 53 million euros (£47.7 million) to land record signing Joelinton this summer, according to German outlet Bild.
They report that Hoffenheim manager Alfred Schreuder has accepted that the Brazilian forward will be leaving soon for St James’ Park.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the Magpies have made a £36 million bid for the hitman, but Bild claim that with add-ons, the actual figure could be over £11 million more.
It isn’t reported what the add-ons constitute, but if Joelinton is a success, then Newcastle will be paying out more as part of his deal.
Backing Steve Bruce with substantial cash but not Rafa Benitez is sure to irk the supporters. The only explanation for Mike Ashley’s decision here is that Joelinton is younger and therefore has sell-on value.
Miguel Almiron made a huge impact at St James’ Park last season and the supporters must be hoping that Joelinton can galvanise the club in a similar way after a summer of unadulterated chaos.
Newcastle need more than just Joelinton through the door this summer though, as their squad is thinning almost all over the pitch and they were thumped 4-0 by Wolves in their first pre-season clash.
