Newcastle could be haunted by a familiar face this weekend

Newcastle United are preparing to reunite with Ayoze Perez again this weekend, as the Magpies travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City.

Steve Bruce’s side will be looking to build on the disappointing 0-0 draw with Brighton, but face a high flying Leicester side who just beat Tottenham Hotspur and are third in the Premier League table.

The Foxes have lost just one game all season in all competitions and are looking strong under Brendan Rodgers so far.

The hosts may have a psychological edge for the clash, having won the August Carabao Cup encounter between the two sides on penalties.

Man of the moment James Maddison is an injury doubt for Sunday’s game, but the Magpies will still need to be wary of former ace Perez.

TBR’s view

Perez is yet to hit top gear for his new club, and Newcastle will not want to be the side that allows him the chance to do that.

They know full well what he’s all about and cannot afford to let him shine.

A lot of Newcastle fans are still upset about his £30 million transfer (BBC Sport) given the goals he contributed last season, and they would hate for him to come back to haunt the club he spent five years at.

Perez has had a low-key start to life at Leicester and is yet to score or assist playing wide right, but may see his old club as an opportunity to get up and running.
