Newcastle confirm signing of unknown defender Ludwig Francillette

Newcastle United have confirmed they have signed Ludwig Francillette.

The defender will join up with the club’s U23s having put pen to paper on a permanent deal after impressing on trial.

He could be involved the upcoming PL2 game against Manchester United on Friday.

Speaking about the move to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s an honour to sign with this club, because we know the story with French players playing for Newcastle, and the fans, and I’m very happy to sign.

“I hope everything will be good.”

Francillette is virtually an unknown entity, and the moves comes after mysterious images emerged of him at St. James’ Park earlier in the summer.

They showed him posing with a shirt, but all then went quiet with fans baffled as to what was going on.

Hardly anything is known about Francillette, so it’s a move that really could go either way.

The announcement did not receive the warmest reception, with fans’ frustrations currently sky-high after two defeats from the first two games.

Having seen Joelinton and Emil Krafth struggle so far, some supporters were in no mood for news of a left-field signing:
