Leeds United are reportedly in a race to sign Boca Juniors midfielder Nahitan Nandez as talks over a new contract with the Argentine side stall – but Newcastle United cannot let Leeds land his signature.
TuttoMercatoWeb claim Leeds are one of four sides interested in the 23-year-old midfielder, who shone at the 2018 World Cup for Uruguay in Russia last summer.
Serie A trio Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Cagliari are also said to be interested in the pocket-sized hothead. Cagliari are said to be leading the race for Nandez’s signature.
Leeds are on the verge of promotion and with the lure of manager Marcelo Bielsa, Nandez may be tempted by Elland Road. But Newcastle simply cannot let that happen.

According to South American radio station Continental (broadcast on ClossAm, 26 July at 6:00pm), Newcastle had made an enquiry for 20-time Uruguay cap Nandez and were told the midfielder has a £12million release clause.
Newcastle need central-midfield additions. Mo Diame remains in the final months of his current deal, while Jonjo Shelvey has hardly played all season. Isaac Hayden is keen to return south to be nearer his family.
Nandez would be an excellent signing for The Toon to provide cover in the middle of the park. He would also add to the South American contingent at St. James’ Park, which continues to grow.
The likes of Brazil’s Kenedy, Venezuela’s Salomon Rondon, Paraguay’s Miguel Almiron and Argentina’s Federico Fernandez would make Nandez feel comfortable. Newcastle have got to beat Leeds to the signing of the midfielder.
